Development Details
This game was made using Construct 3 and it was made for GDKO 2026 - Round 2. The task was to create a multifunctional level or collection of levels that include quick time events
The QTE's were inspired by the battle system in Final Fantasy 8 (PS1) , whilst the multifunctional level design was inspired by a game called Shift (Flash game)
Judging Criteria:
- How good was the level design? I hope people like the two distinct level designs for both the knight (combat focused) and wizard (puzzle focused).
- How well implemented were the quick time events? To defend you hold the correct directions before each magic bubble hits you. To attack you press the correct directions in a shrinking time limit. To land critical hits (+1 damage) you time the press to the animation frame and text will pop up if you were too early or too late.
- How multifunctional was the level design? A ledge when broken can also form a bridge, the floors can be ceilings, what is solid and not solid can be changed, what can crush you can also transport you
- Did the difficulty seem fair? Checkpoints are very generous. I made retro, modern and gamepad controls so the difficulty comes from the puzzles and not from the controls. I tried to make the platforming a fair challenge
- Was it fun to play this entry? Cutscenes have always been commented on being fun in the past so I added two of those. I also hope people enjoy the dialogue, the aha moment when using the flipside and generally feel satisfied if they reach the end.
